Red Brush Timber Framing is a small, family-owned timber framing company based in Bellville, Ohio. We are rooted in faith and honesty. As craftsmen, we are there to offer a timeless and honored way of joining wood that far surpasses the "nail" or "screw". Using hand tools and a few power tool advantages, Red Brush can create incredible outdoor structures such as pergolas, pavilions, shacks, barns and sheds. In addition to outdoor structures, we can join in your pursuit of a warm and open home that will be marveled at by all for as long as the frame stands. Being a humble company, building with us is a very custom, design heavy and inclusive experience.

Build Forever

Here at Red Brush though trusty, we don't rely on the "nail", rather Mortise and Tenon joinery. Using wood to wood joinery is far superior in strength and beauty to most "post and frame" and "stick built" structures. These frames give a feeling of warmth and unmoving, while showing signs of the craftsman throughout. Most of the framework is made up of large timbers around 8" square but can get much larger. With these members able to span longer distances, is gives way for a very expansive space. We offer many options that make building with us, a very custom and rewarding experience.

If you request, we can meet you on the site you wish to build. Learning what you're after, we can sketch up some visuals and fine tune alongside you till we reach final drawings. The design of the frame is very customizable to showcase the intricate woodwork. Each wood species has its uses and aesthetics, which you will have the choice of. Though these timbers will last hundreds of years, applying whatever your choice of oil, stain or paint, these structures can last thousands of years. The roughness of these timbers can be planed, sanded or left rough sawn depending on your preference. After the design has been established, we get to cuttin. Timber Frame Construction is not a "production" way to build but a “forever” way. The frame that is raised in a day or two's time, will be marveled at by all for as long as it stands.

How long does it take to cut a frame?

Of course dependent on size and complexity but a 16'x16' pavilion would be 1 month shop time and 3 days on site. For a 1500 square foot home, shop time would be 4-5 months and 10 days on site.

Where does the wood come from

We source our timber from local mills in Knox County, Ohio who can mill hardwoods and softwoods like oak, maple, pine. We also have a mill of our own that allows us to mill specialty timbers that can excentuate the frames beauty.

What is your scope of work on a structure

We at Red Brush Timber Framing will work with you to accomplish a structural design along with your architect and engineer if necessary. We will pull what permits we need for your project, we cut the structural framework, raise the frame, and install roof framing. We are more than happy to refer other trades for concrete, coverings, mechanical and finishing works.
